Service Pack 2 for Windows 2003

S

Sabo, Eric

We are trying to install Service Pack 2 for Windows 2003 and we are getting
stuck at backing up the registry part, it does nothing, we let it go for
about 30 minutes and still nothing.

Does anyone have any suggestion on what to do?

Getting 0x80092004 in the service pack 2 log file but KB822798 does not
resolve my issue.

Also I just found this on another site which appears to have worked for a
few people, though the issue is in this case was with 2003 SP1.
http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=253400

1.) At the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER
after each line:
net stop cryptsvc
ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 oldcatroot2
net start cryptsvc
exit

2.) Deleted all files in
%systemroot%\System32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}
that begin with tmp*.cat.

It took us about 4.5 hours to fail get Windows 2003 Service Pack 2 to
install on the server.

It was a lot of steps that we had to go through
