Headset works but the microphone is not picking up any sound, how can I fix it?

My microphone on my headset stopped working but it was working fine a few days ago and even if I did do something to mess it up I tried a system restore to when it was working. I've also checked in settings but it says it working fine (it's the default microphone and plugged in correctly). No sound shows up when I try to test my microphone and troubleshooting tells me it couldn't identify the problem. All the drivers are up-to-date as well.
