WMI process used as a gateway for hackers ??

So I understand that the process “sink to receive asynchronous callbacks for WMI client application” is default on Windows 10, and that the WMI thing is also apart of Microsoft, but theoretically speaking, if somebody downloaded something sketchy off the internet, could somebody else use that WMI process, or the other mentioned process, as a gateway into your system ?
