I cant get a security code that works

I just got a new surface laptop and when I went to sign in the normal thing came up asking to get a code from a different email which I've done before, But this time when I put the code in (it sends me a 6 digit code) it tells me I need a 7 digit code, I've tried the phone number option as well and it still gives me a 6 digit code. I thought I'd try to change my password because it had been forever since I've had to enter it and I cant remember it but then it brings me through the same steps of getting this 7 digit code that doesn't get sent to me, I've also tried on multiple devices and it is
