Word prints A4 format despite custom format chosen

Hi! I have a very annoying problem. When I try to print to PDF through Adobe printer, the PDF I obtain is A4 and not the custom format I have chosen for the word document! If I choose a different format in Adobe printer settings before printing, when I go back to the settings I find A4 format selected. I have tried other PDF printers, always the same problem.I have unmarked the option for "Scale content for A4 or 8.5 x 11" paper sizes" (File | Options | Advanced: Print) but STILL the same problem. Can you help me please?
