My Anti Virus Scan Stops/Finishes Mid Way

I think I might have a virus on my computer, but when I try to do a full scan on my computer, it never works. It takes about 11 minutes for the scan bar to reach 3/4 of the way, and then it disappears and the message pops up in the bottom left of my screen telling me that my computer has no viruses like a normal and correct scan would. But the problem is that the scan never completed. Has this happened to anyone, and if so how can I fix it?
