Windows 10 freezes when opening apps after updating from 8.1

I have just updated from windows 8,1 to 10. Sometimes whenever I open an app or multiple, my laptop freezes completely and have to wait while sometimes having to hard boot. I have a Dell Inspiron 15r-5537 with an Intel core i3-4010u and 4GB of ddr3 1600mhz ram.
