Why do my Windows notifications work on wifi but not when I'm using an Ethernet connection?

I have Windows notifications turned on, and they're working (like for Outlook new messages), but only when my laptop is connected to the internet via Wifi. If I plug in the Ethernet cable, the notifications stop.
