Who do I have a high pitched screeching from headphones whenever I open Sound Settings or Voice Recorder in Windows 10?

I have found this with a few headphones. They are fine when plugged into my laptop, listening to music etc. But as soon as I open sound settings or voice recorder on Windows 10 there is a high pitched screeching sound. The screeching stops as soon as I close Sound Settings or voice recorder. Is there a way to stop this?
