Why did Onedrive change the structure of File Explorer and why can't I move items out of Desktop?

I deleted some files which were available on my pc and on Onedrive. I got a popup window explaining the recycle bin in Onedrive. I couldn't close the window unless I checked the box to take me to the Onedrive recycle bin. I didn't think much of it. I deleted other files and got the same popup every time. The final time I got it, it kept flashing (glitching is probably a better word) and everything was locked: File Explorer, internet access, programs I had been using (ie MS Word).
