Why won’t my PC add a secondary display?

I’m on windows 10 and my PC won’t add a secondary display. I’m trying to run VR on my pc and it’s won’t let me add a secondary display. It detects the VR is working but it joins the two displays (VR and TV) and has half on one screen and half on the other rather than setting them too two different displays. Why won’t my computer split them up like every other person I’ve seen? It just quite literally doesn’t add a secondary display.
