why can't i change my display resolution more than 1440 x 900?

when I set the display resolution to 1440 x 1080 or higher, the monitor goes black and it says "aus.specifikationf 67.4 kHz / 60 Hz", what does that mean and how to fix it cause everything looks relatively larger?
