\System Volume Information is corrupt or unreadable

Hello.
I think this is related to my other post on rstrui.exe being corrupt. I
have now also caught a message that says the SystemPropertiesProtection.exe
file is corrupt, and "the file or directory \System Volume Information is
corrupt or unreadable. Please run the chkdsk utility".
I've tried to run chkdsk, which runs in the dos prompt screen, but
disappears at the the end of the process, so I've not a managed to catch the
result yet.
Does anyone know how I might be able to mend this ?
Thanks,
Bernie

To repair the exe file, try SFC

Some Windows Vista functions may not work, or Windows Vista may stop
