My detachable mic is not being detected when I plug my headphones into my headphone jack

I am using a JBL FREEWFH headphones, and the microphone is connected to the headset through a headphone jack on the side of the headphonesI am on Windows 10 and the microphone only shows up as plugged in when I plug my headphones into my mircophone jack, but then I am unable to hear any sound
