Laptop bitlockered itself. Can I use a recovery drive from an older version of windows to factory reset?

So as per title, went to bed after watching some youtube videos and woke up locked out. No idea what caused this as I never set this up. I apparently never registered it to my Microsoft account. Likely on purpose as that shouldn't be required to own a PC. So I've already made peace that I'm going to lose all my data over this incredibly stupid function. It sounds like I have to factory reset it with a recovery drive, from what I'm reading.
