How do i know if the windows 10 product key has been changed to my new oem key?

so i purchased a new windows 10 pro retail oem key online as i wanted to do a clean install of an old laptop which had a preinstalled os license on it. the laptop is one of my kids previous school laptop, which was administered by the school. when i tried to clean install from usb, i was not presented with the option to enter an activation key. so i assume that the install is somehow still picking up the old activation key from bios. i followed the instructions provided in Redirecting
