I have been having this issue on multiple devices over a period of several months now. Despite being connected to wifi, the account sign-in window says "you will need an internet connection for this", with the error code 0x800704cf. I have experienced this issue on both wireless and wired connections across multiple devices including laptops and desktop PCs for both Windows 10, and 11. This issue happens for sign-in prompts on Microsoft Office apps (word, publisher etc.), and on the Minecraft launcher. Sign-in is successful on a browser and on third-party Minecraft launchers, but not on Micros
