How do i fix the Error code (0x8000ffff) and why isn't my Directx12 not working correctly?

My computer has been running the same error code whenever I attempt to update its windows, (0x8000ffff). The reason I've been trying so much to update it is that a game I'm trying to play (Remnant 2) says it requires directx12, although I already have directx12 installed and functional. I unfortunately have tried a lot of the suggested fixes to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
