Removing power supply on closed lid not performing hibernation.

I have the windows power settings as it put my system to hibernate when I close the lid on battery power but do nothing when power supply is on. I observe that when lid is closed with power supply on, and when power supply is removed later my system doesn't hibernate the laptop. Not sure why it is doing that?
