Trying to Delete Files/Links - OneDrive Issue

I have an old computer that I need to give away. It was used with OneDrive and the owner already has a new computer and using OneDrive. It seems like it is not possible to delete files & account info from a single device without obliterating your entire life-long collection of files? I closed OneDrive & signed out of it on the PC I'm trying to clean. I went into the account (from the new computer) and unlinked this old PC from the Microsoft ID on the account. Files are still on the old computer. So I try to delete them - they get deleted everywhere. Now they're gone. How can I
