How to fix black screen after windows update

Frustrated doesn't scratch the surface after over 15 hours trying to fix the disappearance of my desktop to only recover enough to be able to see task manager on an otherwise black screen. Asus X53E was running perfectly on an SSD that was cloned from HDD. No issues - none until Windows 10 update. Norton Antivirus (used for 15 years) so I'm confident it's not virus. Not cables! Not extended display. In the last 15 hours, booted from ISO (Media creation) and none of the repair options worked. Have done all the bootrec commands. Blue screen logon then nothing but black screen unless CTR
