Why does MS Paint change my colors around designs?

Why does MS Paint change my colors around designs? If I have an element of my design that is angled or curved in nature, even if I manually change the color of the pixels next to it one at a time, the next day it changes the colors to something different. This makes it very hard to change background colors. Any advice on how to convince it to leave my pixels alone after I change them manually? Thanks.
