On Windows 11, my external monitor(s) won't wake up after they have been turned off

Hi all, I have a Surface Laptop 5 and typically use two external monitors - connected via USB-C and therefore the laptop is always plugged in.My monitors go to sleep (which I want) after a few minutes of inaction. When I come back and move the mouse or hit a keyboard key, many many times only one of the monitors turns back on. The other remains shut off. Any ideas on why this might be case? This is not due to the laptop going to sleep, it remains turned on the entire time. Here some further information:
