what does it mean when my laptop (windows 10) goes into a blank screen (theme color)

Wasn't too sure what to put this under but when I'm using my laptop, sometimes it will either go into a black screen (leaving me with nothing to do but force shut it down) or a blank type screen thats my theme color..Could this be a sign of a virus/malware?(My laptop is also kind of old)I tried looking this problem up but I couldn't find anything
