why did my virus and treat protection scan almost 30,000 files with 0 treats found, when I don't even have 30,000 files on my computer?

above. the question says it all. it says it was due* for a scan and when i ran it, it showed almost 30,000 files being scanned. that seems ridiculous. i would like to know why though, if you guys could tell me. thank you
