I bought a WD Elements 1TB (931GB) hard drive back in 2019; it reached 100gb of space as its remainder early this year, then thirty GB mid-March and that's where problems began. Loss of speed, slower interactivity with folders failing to show their contents or open at all, Frequent restarting of widows explorer barely improved this. I made use of Crystal Disk Info to see a caution warning at 35 degrees with a mention of bad sectors. I tried and failed to analyze and defragment the drive due to the speed/memory issue.
