How do you stop Explorer in Windows 11 opening automatically?

I have two video conversion apps (AVC and VLC) and both require me to paste URL's into them for conversion. When I try to, Explorer opens so that I can go no further, making the apps unusable. They both worked fine in Windows 10, and I have tried MS tips, such as cancelling Autoplay, pointing Explorer to This PC etc, but it still happens. Any help fully appreciated
