Multiple Desktop folder duplicate in download folder causing storage to be doubled

i accidentally moved Desktop folder into the Downloads folder, causing it to appear as a duplicate and it doubles my storage, and if i delete the file in the duplicate one, the file in my desktop also will be deleted. how can i remove it without deleting my files
