Media Player - 0xc00d6d60 - will not play avi

Hello - I can't get windows to play avi files - ok through vlc player but all windows applications like media player won't get the 0xc00d6d60 cannot playback. I need to insert a video into PowerPoint hence the need for media player. I've tried uninstalling. Any help? Thanks.
