Hi I wanna use my Windows 7 Home prem product key to activate Windows 10 Home but it says that its not a real windows key how can I fix this?

SO baisicly my hardrive whit the windows 7 died and i found the sticker whit windows 7 home prem product key and i heard you can use a windows 7 product key to activate windows 10 but when i put it in it said that the key is fake and that stuff so now I am confiused why cant activate it? I cluod send the picture of the sticker and the product key but its says not to so I wont.Thank you for reading this and thank you for your time.
