Can't remove account from the Authenticator app?

I have the Authenticator app on my phone (Pixel 6 Pro with the latest version of Android). It still has the company provided account from my last employer and I can't remove it. This KB article (Delete account from authenticator - Microsoft Community) says that I should be able to remove it by tapping on the account. But when I tap the account, it just asks me for the username and password -- since I no longer work there, the username and password are no longer valid.I need to use the Authenticator for my new job as well as my personal MS account. How can I remove the old account?
