Can I boot and run Windows 10 from SSD connected to USB port that was internally connected before?

Hello,my laptop Lenovo T570 was delivered with pre-installed Windows 10 on NVMe SSD device.However due to this hardware failure (NVMe interface adapter on mainboard is broken) I cannot find this device in BIOS anymore and as a result Windows is unavailable.My idea is now to put the NVMe SSD device into an external case and connect this to a USB 3 port.However, Windows 10 is not booting in this setup, instead I'm caught in the boot-repair-loop.I have verified (with sfc and chkdsk) that this NVMe SSD device is working correctly, and I can boot Windows 10 w/o problems when putting this NVMe SSD
