How do I update Minecraft without an error coming up?

Since the new update, I've not been able to go onto Minecraft realms, whenever I try to join a server it says 'Outdated Client' and sends me to the store. I've been trying to update it for the last 2 days but it always cancels the download and tells me to try again later (error code: 0x80073cfb). How do I fix this?
