Why does a normal word Doc corrupt by itself and refuse to open? This happened on my USB then again the same file lock happened on my desktop copy on

Please tell me why a normal Word Doc. corrupts itself on a USB drive, then a copy of the same file gets corrupted on the desktop as well? is it my computer?
