All excel icons are not showing up on desktop !

I have WINDOWS 10. Started having issued this morning, when I was om excel and the help function wouldn't work. I went to the search bar and when I started typing "AP" the letters disappeared immediately. I decided to shut down and when it came back to the desktop, all the excel icons were missing !!! I checked in the external drive and the backups were ok. How do I get those files back on the desktop. wondering if it has anything to do with "ONE DRIVE'?
