Microsoft safety scanner never ends

I made the mistake of opening an attachment that when I looked closely had ****.ru domain, so I suspect I am infected, but I've run three other scanners (Trendmicro, Eset, Malwarebytes) which detected nothing. Microsoft safety scanner has been running for 60 hours. I have ~700,000 files and it now has scanned over 60,000,000 files. It got to 75% on the progress bar and doesn't look to be making progress at all. It is not frozen on a specific file, but just never completing. Recommendations?
