I see it dating back to 2000s, maybe even late 1990s.EFI/UEFI seems to scan drives to boot from any rootkit/bootkit first. They also give the appearance of Windows to EFI (You can select other OS or Windows in "BIOS")Latest news on rootkit/bootkit infection. I downloaded bootkit/rootkit remover from AVG, I could not find them on the drive, after booting from clean Windows media USB drive (assuming it's write protected). I even downloaded it to the root drive, on 3 different drives. It eventually showed up after number of reboots.The Infected Windows seems to be keeping different set of NTF
