Why Am I getting constant pop up? I have the pop up blocker set to HIGH

My daughter just bought this laptop 2 days ago. Now it is getting constant pop ups about mcfee antiviruse, and saying that a virus is detected. How to I run a scan with the built in software and stop all the pop ups?
