How do I make a drop down list automatically change based off another cell value?

I am creating a spreadsheet for sub fees for a youth football team. I have created a drop down list for the status of the subs. However, I want to be able to input the date paid and have the drop down automatically change based on this. E.g if there is a date in the paid column, the status column (drop down menu) automatically changes to complete. If there is no date but it is before the date shown in the due date column, the status will automatically be due and if there is no date in the paid column and it is past the date in the due date Column it will automatically say outstanding....Does t
