For some reason my computer cannot use voice chat or anything that needs a microphone and I need help getting it to work.

I have been trying to get voice chat for steam to work but it never does and when I hit test microphone on windows settings and the steam page it goes up a little then back down and stays there. I have troubleshooted and followed advice online but nothing works. I have restarted my computer and tried to update the audio drivers. My headset is working and I have used it for other devices on voice chat.
