I am running into a problem with my NetBIOS domain name being different from the first element of the FQDN. For example for years my FQDN has been corp.acme.com and the NetBIOS name has been acme. For authentication it has been acme\username. In the last month, this has changed for webserver authentication. I have 2 2016 servers. First one is my domain controller with DHCP, DNS, and SQL on it.
