Just got new acer laptop connected to WiFi but can't get email

Brought computer connected to our internet account in shop so they could download old files from old computer but basic set up skipped bits said could sort later gone home with new computer internet WiFi connection done with WPS no problem but gone to mail and nothing tried to connect but no joy
