Watching Microsoft purchased TV series through my smart tv in Canada

Hi there, Before I purchase a tv series, I'm want to ensure there is a way for me to watch it on my smart TV. Can I download the xbox app (I don't have an xbox) and watch through that? Or would it be only available on my computer? For reference I live in Canada. Thanks.
