How can I find out if a previous MSN email account I had is still active?

I previously had an MSN email account . It went away for the reason MSN gave me: they had a problem with some update and lost many MSN email accounts. I would like to find out if it really is gone or is it still active? I use it for things I do online where I don't want to use my real, current email and I never get feedback of it not being a valid email account.Thank you.
