User Name vs Pre-Windows 2000 user name

I know the User login is your UPN and the User Login Pre-Windows 2000 is SamAccount. Right now my user accounts are first initial last name. However my email addresses are first.last. Can I leave the pre-windows 2000 the old way and change the user login to match my email addresses for SSO purposes. Would there be any implications for users logging into their PCs. Can they still login to the pc with the old username and still have SSO work.Let me know.Doug
