HP Pavillion Laptop showing black screen

Hello, my mum recently gave me her HP Pavillion laptop because it was showing a black screen when turned on, It turns on (when connected to AC), the HDD spins up, but nothing shows on the screen, its like that screen you get when you turn on your computer and windows has not loaded the boot menu yet so it shows that like black screen but with a bit of brightness , Please can someone give me a bit of help, I Dont know the model number but im getting a suspicion that it is a HP Pavillion 15-n200
