Removing virus takes too long

I ran a full virus scan with Windows defender. It found multiple threats. I clicked whatever it was that would remove the threat. 7 hours later it's showing that it's still working with no update. Just spinning around. How can I tell if it's working?[Original Title: Virus removal]
