Trim function on the microsoft photos app

Previously when I used the trim function on the Microsoft photos app the trimmed video would be of a much smaller size vs the original (for example previously a video that was approx. 3,000,000KB would end up closer to 100,000KB after trimming. This would occur even if I was only trimming the video for a few seconds. Now even if I trim the video quite substantially the size is very similar. Presumably the trimmed video was of a lower quality for this to occur but I prefered it this way. Is it possible to alter the trim settings so that the saved video will be a smaller size?Thanks
