Laptop refresh before college

Hi, I don't really understand the mysterious ways the computers work. I have a laptop (Lenovo Ideapad 3? I think I am not sure) and I am going to college soon. I want to refresh this laptop so it runs faster and is free of any malware or these types of things, downloaded stuff that is not useful anymore etc. Is there some way to achieve it? Like factory settings? But I want to keep some of my old stuff too. Thanks for all the helpful tips!
