how do i sign-in into my pc with the authenticator app

i had this before but now it doesn't do it but now it makes me to sign in through the pc but when this thing was working it opens a small window , to send a notification to my authenticator app, then i select the number that is shown on the screen (small window tab) on to the app on my phone.so how would i get this back?i prefer this way to sign in, so i know when some one is trying to sign in, when am not home.please help me to fix this
